This image shows a detailed view of a reflection nebula located in the region of the sky close to M78, which is a bright diffuse nebula in Orion. The field of view in this image is centered at about RA: 05h 47m 17s Dec: +00d 38' 21" (J2000). The center of the field of view is offset about 35 arc-minutes from M78 at a position angle of 13 degrees. The bright star in the upper center of the image is GSC 116:853, which is a magnitude 10 star. North is to the left about 102 degrees counterclockwise from vertical. This nebula and M78 are both part of a vast nebula cloud that covers much of Orion.
This is an RGB color composite CCD image taken with an SBIG STL-11000M CCD and a RCOS 24-inch telescope. The image was taken at the University of Arizona Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.
