NGC 2438 is a planetary nebula associated with the star cluster M46. The planetary nebula is located about 3,000 light-years away. The central star in NGC 2438 is one of the hottest stars known. It is a white dwarf that has a surface temperature of about 75,000 degrees K. The planetary nebula is not actually located in the M46 star cluster, but instead appears to be merely a chance alignment with the star cluster.
