This image shows the Sun during an annular eclipse on May 20, 2012. The image was taken from a friend's place near Reno, Nevada. The planet Venus was visible near the Sun during the eclipse. Venus was just 16 days away from making a transit across the face of the Sun on June 5, 2012.
This image was published in the Comstock Chronical newspaper in Virginia City, Nevada, on May 25, 2012. The image was taken with a Takahashi FS-78 refractor mounted on a modified Takahashi EM-10 mount. A Canon EOS Digital Rebel SLR camera was used at prime focus. A Thousand Oaks Optical Type 2+ solar filter was used on the refractor.
