Comparison of the Sun Viewed Through Different Filters

This image shows the Sun viewed through two different types of solar filters. The image on the left was taken with a Takahashi FS-78 refractor using a Thousand Oaks Optical Type 2+ solar filter, and the image on the right was taken with a Coronado Instruments SolarMax 60 refractor using a hydrogen-alpha filter. The sunspots visible in the image on the left show up as black spots in the image on the right. Solar prominences visible in the image on the right as dark regions are invisible when viewed with a solar filter such as the one used for the image on the left.
