This is an image of the Sun taken with a hydrogen-alpha filter during the partial eclipse of the Sun leading up to the annular eclipse of the Sun on May 20, 2012. A number of solar prominences were visible on the limb of the Sun, although none of them were captured in this image.
This image of the Sun was taken with a Coronado Instruments SolarMax 60 H-alpha 60mm refractor mounted on a tripod. The refractor has a built in hydrogen-alpha filter.
